Few other cities in Germany are as synonymous with post-migrant culture as Berlin. But even here, it is difficult for post-migrant cultural spaces to survive or even emerge - whether due to the rapid gentrification that is homogenizing inner cities or a white cultural funding landscape. Yet they are urgently needed: In independent spaces, art can emerge that is freer from the expectations of the dominant society. Here, cultural life can be more self-determined and solidarity between different communities can grow.
Since 2021, we have been inviting people to Körnerpark Neukölln on the day before the İÇ İÇE Festival with BİZ BİZE (just us). With this intervention in public space, we celebrate art and culture that is free from the expectations of the dominant society.
Moin, hello, selam, مرحباً – I'm Kaya Peters (he/him), a multimedia artist, sound designer, and urbanist based in Berlin.
My work explores the intersections of sound, space, and storytelling, with a focus on memory cultures, postmigrant society, and social movements. Combining critical urbanist perspectives with experimental media techniques, I create immersive experiences that reflect the complexities of identity and collective memory.
I hold master’s degrees in Urbanism (M.Sc.) and Media Art and Design (M.F.A.) from Bauhaus University Weimar. Through my transdisciplinary approach, I aim to spark conversations about belonging, resilience, and transformation in contemporary urban life.
